NUFOREST CHICKEN LITTLE MSB

WE SUCCESSFULLY SHIPPED A DACHSHUND TO HAWAII

We were contacted several months ago by a family in Hawaii.  They wanted a smooth coated Dachshund and asked if we would work with them to make it happen.  They flew to San Diego and chose a young piebald smooth coated adult.  We had already named the youngster NUFOREST CHIKN LITL MSP, (Chickie).  Months later our little Chickie tested her wings (actually Alaska Air’s) and flew to her new family.  She is now called Moon Pie and is doing well.  Hopefully we will get photos and updates for our Happy Client’s Page as time goes by.

Jumping through all the hoops and red tape to send her off took time and planning and quite a few vet visits.  Dr. Vickie Swarowski of SoCal Veterinary Hospital guided us thru all the steps.

1.  Two new Rabies vaccinations spaced 30 days apart

2. After the second vaccination there was a blood draw and it was sent off to Kansas State University Wichita.

3. We thought the wait for results we take 3-4 weeks but actually was only about 2 weeks.  Chickie had a good passible titer count so was okayed enter Hawaii.

4.  We weren’t done yet as Chickie needed an International Health Certificate that included all vaccinations given with dates and manufacturers listed.  The certificate also needed information about medications given for internal and external parasites and signed by an approved Vet.  Yes, SoCal had the forms and Dr. Vickie completed them for us.

5. All the documents had to be sent to the Hawaii State Department of Agriculture and Chickie had to fly within 14 days…

6.  We had a reservation with Hawaiian Air.  We prepared the crate for shipping and arrived At their Cargo desk at 5:00 AM  for an early morning flight. The shipping crate was refused as it didn’t have any air holes in the back.

7.  Back home Bill was going to drill holes in the back of a crate when he found a crate at Kahoots that we thought would be perfect.  It had several cut-outs in the back wall. We were able to get a cargo reservation for Chickie to fly the next day.  So another early morning trip to Hawaiian Air where they again refused the crate as the air holes were to big.  The agent suggested we try Alaska Air to see if they could take Chickie in the current crate.  YES!  We could get her on a flight later the same day but since the plane wouldn’t arrive in Hawaii until after the Dept of Ag. closed in the afternoon Chickie would have to spend the night at a Quarantine Kennel on arrival.  We called Chick’s new family and they said that would be OK and to send her….

Otto

Hello,

Just thought we’d give an update on our red sable boy, Otto, who is a year old today!

He is the sweetest boy! He loves to cuddle with the whole family.

He’s very active. We have taken him hiking with us on the Pacific Crest Trail, a short drive from where we live. He insisted on walking the entire time, he only whined when I tried to pick him up and give him a break lol. He has very good public manners. He spent an entire soccer season traveling with us to soccer games.

He gets very excited when he sees young kids because he knows they are most likely to come over and give him attention. He’s so smart. He’s very quick to figure out the puzzle feeders we get for him.

I’ll add a few pictures, including him hiking with us, and laying on his bed under my desk (this is where he hangs out if I’m working from home, especially when I have the space heater on lol).

Daisy

Dear Susan and team.

Today we celebrated the 5th year anniversary of picking up “Daisy”, our Piebald Wirehaired puppy from you (who was born in January 2020. )

(She’s actually registered as “NUFOREST Princess Whoopsie Daisy Von Yermo)😁

I see most people who contact you usually are talking about their recent acquisition, as we did in 2020, but I wanted to share with you how Daisy is doing after 5 years.

We could not be happier that she is in our lives. She is smart, talented, funny and lives up to every dachshund stereotype! (The ones that make you laugh out loud & the ones that drive you crazy!:) She is also extremely healthy and well bred. (We keep her weight down and make sure she gets plenty of play and exercise )

She impressed our vet at each checkup, and has never needed any medical care outside of getting her vaccines.

It was so great that she was with us keeping us amused and attended to during those horrible Covid years, and we are looking forward to many happy years with her ahead!

Anyway…we thought you might be interested to know how one of your pups are faring now that she’s a grown up..(a few through the years photos attached, (including 1 when she was just a baby in Bill’s arms)

Sincerely, Tom & Steve
